Cool links
Here's some of my favorite websites:
Genius Blog -- One of my genius friends turned me on to this cool site, an exploration of what makes some people truly exceptional. It's fascinating!
The Happiness Project -- This is an impressive and inspiring site documenting one woman's search for happiness. It covers everything from dieting tips to family rituals. I could spend hours here.
Television Without Pity -- What can I say? I have no pity when it comes to television. Seriously, if you want smart discussions of (often stupid) television shows. This is the place to go. (It's a nicely run site. People are actually encouraged to speak in complete sentences. It does raise the level of discourse.)
Slate -- In Cover Girl Confidential, the main character jokes that left to her own devices she would get all her news from Salon.com. That's silly. The only place to get your news is Slate!
Just my Type -- This is a fun website written by Eileen Cook, who -- I happen to know -- has an excellent first novel coming out later this year. I was lucky enough to read the novel In the Stars in the early production stages and I started laughing at the first scene. It's delightful!
Baby Name Voyager -- This addictive site allows you to chart the popularity of various names over the years. It's way more fun than it sounds. It works for parents and people trying to name characters in novels.
CoverGirl -- I don't really think of myself as the kind of person that spends a lot of time at makeup websites. (I would look better if I did!) But for my book Cover Girl Confidential, I had to do a little research into my main character's favorite makeup -- CoverGirl, of course. I found this website actually sort of amusing and in particular, I liked the free ecards they offer in the section devoted to their Queen collection. I mean, they're free. So they're not the cutest e-cards you've ever seen, but I like the fact that some of them are set up as inviting a friend to a night out. And they look classy enough. (They're also silent, so you can open them at work without anyone knowing!)
Mom Matters -- This site dedicated to parenting is published by The Courier-Journal. They've hired me to write a parenting blog for the site. Now, I'm not just a parent with obnoxious opinions. I'm a parent who gets paid to SHARE her obnoxious opinions.
Warner Women blog -- A group of Warner authors talk about love, life and writing.
